Birds of Santa Cruz

If you know me, you know I LOVE animals (except spiders, they do not count, they never count). These birds often annoy people and get overlooked. I happen to love them and love watching them. There is one in particular that has only 1 foot. He is very strong willed and does not let his disability affect him. I ALWAYS look for him when I am at the wharf! They all have their own personalities, which is noticeable when you observe them like I do. They are very photogenic and super fun!

I find them to be intelligent and actually funny and daring. I have seen many of them picking at the sea lions for scraps or what not. But some of them are very daring, walking through a pile of sleeping sea lions. The sea lions often "yell" at these guys, not wanting to be disturbed, walked on, picked at, or what have you. Its a funny site to see. They are fearless.

I hope to continue this collection of Santa Cruz Birds! I could watch these guys for hours, I could honestly watch any animal for hours! I am just fascinated.

Enjoy......

Ashly Deskins

I am Ashly. I recently moved from Ohio to Northern California with my husband Kevin. I graduated from The Ohio State University in December of 2013 with my B.A. in Arts. I am a photographer and involve myself in various crafts. A certain level of madness sets in if I do not have a project in the works or ideas in mind. I love walking into craft or home improvement stores and getting inspired with all the possibilities. My passion of photography started in high school when I took a film class. I enjoyed the class but never considered photography could be any more than a hobby. I quickly realized how that was not true. My husband (then boyfriend) started getting into Photography which lead to a degree and career. I was often his model in his photography classes and quickly realized how intriguing this art was. I took photography classes during the course of getting my art degree and fell in love again.
