I love Washi tape - maybe a little too much! When I was redecorating my husband and I's bedroom, I wanted to keep my craft supplies organized. I am an artist who loves to keep things, just in case one day I might need them (what artist isn't like that?), and that mindset often leads to the hoarding of crafts supplies. So while redecorating, I wanted to make sure my supplies each had a proper "home". I found these items amongst my supplies and played around with them until I figured out what I was going to do with them. I knew I wanted one place to keep my Washi tape, and this design worked out perfect.
- spray paint
- sawtooth hanger
- and washi tape of course
I originally started this project thinking I would hang our hats or my necklaces on spools. Then I realized the Washi tape fit around the spools perfectly, so it became my Washi board.
The steps for this project are very simply! Its a fun project that can take either 20 min or several hours. It really is up to you how involved you want to get. I wanted the design to stay simple, but you can change the design to your liking.
Step 1: Gather your board and decorating supplies. My board is 24"x12", but you may decide to go smaller or larger. I had extra gold spray paint and gold letters, so it worked perfect. This project is very customizable! You can paint the entire board, paint half (like I did), or not use paint at all.
Step 2: Decorate your board! Again, completely customizable.
Step 3: Add the sawtooth hanger to the back of the board. I do this before adding the spools, it makes it much easier to nail in.
Step 4: Glue down the Spools. I used a hot glue gun, but any strong holding glue will work. I got my spools from Etsy, but major craft stores carry them as well. I set out all my spools and played around with different layouts before I found the one I liked. My spools only go about 3/4 of the way down my board, I really liked that design. However, I am considering adding more spools as my entire washi tape collection continues to grow!
I hope you enjoyed this DIY Monday! Be sure to check back for Photo Friday. Lifestyle Wednesday will be back next week!
Thanks for reading and craft on!
